The Community Security Trust teamed up with Barnet Metropolitan Police last week to pioneer a state of the art, high tech initiative which sees the boys in blue become the boys in Bluetooth. The force has launched a new messaging system, contacting locals via their mobile phones, PDAs and computers.
All people have to do is activate their Bluetooth facilities to receive details about crimes and other such incidents in the borough.
Chief Inspector Lucy D'Orsi said: "This is another example of Barnet Police embracing modern technology to serve the local community providing important information to those who require it, when they require it. The mobile capability of this equipment means that it has numerous uses across Barnet borough, from providing crime prevention advice in a busy high street to providing up to date information at a serious incident."
The CST played an active role in the launch at Golders Green Station on Thursday. Director of Communications Marc Gardner said: "This was an excellent example of local policing in action.
It combined local intelligence about crime hot spots with public reassurance, and naturally CTS was very pleased to play its part in this. The operation was not specifically planned with the Jewish community in mind, but improved policing is very welcome and will hopefully send out a message to trouble-makers to keep out of our neighbourhoods."
