What is claimed to be the world's first fully interactive city guide for residents and tourists is to be introduced in Leeds.

LeedsCast will enable people to download information about the city directly to their mobile phones ranging from restaurant guides, contacts such as taxi numbers, things to see and do and directions between locations.

The information will become available through a series of LeedsCast 'zones' across the city.

Each zone will hold different information about that location, which users will be able to access when they enter that area.

The LeedsCast zones will be implemented in 20 locations across Leeds, such as major retail centres, places of interest and key access points to the city.

LeedsCast has been developed through European funding secured by City Centre Leeds in partnership with Marketing Leeds.

Deborah Green, chief operating officer at Marketing Leeds, said: "We are proud to be hosting the first virtual city guide in the world. LeedsCast has the potential to allow us to reach people entering the city centre, not only with practical city information but with the city's own campaign messages."

The free information will be supplied by www.leedsliveitloveit.com, the website which is part of Marketing Leeds' campaign to raise the profile of the city.
